Louisiana State Police Investigate Deadly Trooper-Involved Shooting During Traffic Stop On Highway 431

Gonzales, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police detectives are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred during a traffic stop in Ascension Parish early Tuesday morning.

The incident took place shortly before 2:00 a.m. on September 30, 2025, at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 431 and Louisiana Highway 935. A Louisiana State Police trooper had initiated a routine traffic stop on a vehicle when circumstances led to the officer discharging his service weapon.

One subject involved in the traffic stop was transported to a local hospital, where medical personnel pronounced them deceased. The trooper involved in the shooting was not injured during the incident.

The Louisiana State Police Force Investigation Unit (FIU) has taken over the investigation. FIU detectives specialize in investigating incidents involving law enforcement officers.

Louisiana State Police Crime Lab personnel are currently processing the scene and collecting evidence. Investigators are working to gather additional information about the circumstances that led to the use of deadly force during the traffic stop.

The intersection where the shooting occurred serves as a connection point between two state highways in Ascension Parish, located in southeastern Louisiana between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
