Louisiana State Police Investigate Deadly Tree Collision on LA-151 Involving Calhoun Driver

Ouachita Parish, Louisiana - Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F initiated an investigation into a fatal single-vehicle crash on LA-151 near LA-837 on the evening of Thursday, January 4, 2024, just before 5:00 p.m. The crash resulted in the tragic loss of William Collins, 37, of Calhoun, Louisiana.

Initial findings indicate that Collins was driving a 2007 Honda Odyssey southbound on LA-151 when the vehicle veered off the road, collided with a tree, and overturned. Despite being properly restrained, Collins succumbed to his injuries at the scene. While there is no suspicion of impairment, standard toxicology samples were gathered for further examination. The incident is currently under investigation.

Louisiana State Police says to ensure safety on the roads, it's crucial to maintain focus while driving and avoid any form of impairment. This includes refraining from distractions like texting or eating while behind the wheel and staying away from alcohol or drugs – both prescribed and illicit – before driving. By making responsible decisions while operating a vehicle, we have the power to prevent tragedies and save lives.

So far in 2024, Troop F has handled one fatal crash resulting in one fatality.
