Louisiana State Police Investigate Deadly Single-Vehicle Incident That Killed Unrestrained Texas Driver on Highway 183

Collinston, Louisiana - A fatal single-vehicle crash occurred on Thursday, December 5, 2024, on Louisiana Highway 183, resulting in the death of 29-year-old Damieon Akins of Houston, Texas. The incident, which took place shortly after 10:00 a.m. north of Louisiana Highway 134, is currently under investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop F.

According to preliminary findings, Akins was driving a 2002 GMC Denali eastbound on Louisiana Highway 183 at a high rate of speed. For reasons still unknown, the vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and overturned. Akins, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

As part of the investigation, routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. Louisiana State Police are working to determine the exact cause of the crash and the events leading up to the incident.

Speed is believed to have played a factor in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing. Louisiana State Police are urging drivers to exercise caution and follow all traffic laws, including wearing seatbelts and adhering to speed limits.
