St. Charles Parish, Louisiana - At approximately 9:30 p.m. on October 27, 2023, Louisiana State Police Troop B initiated an investigation into a tragic incident on the Spillway Bridge in St. Charles Parish. This incident involved a motorcycle crash that resulted in the untimely death of Christopher L. Miley, a 49-year-old resident of Springfield, Louisiana.

According to the initial findings, Miley was operating a 2006 Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide, traveling eastbound on the Spillway Bridge. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, but it appears that Miley lost control of the motorcycle, ultimately colliding with the left guard rail. This impact caused him to be forcefully ejected from the motorcycle. Subsequently, Miley was struck by at least one vehicle.

Tragically, despite wearing a helmet approved by the Department of Transportation (DOT), Miley sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.

At this point, it is unclear whether impairment played a role in the crash, and a routine toxicology sample has been collected for further analysis. LSP is also asking that anyone possessing information pertaining to this incident contact Troop B at 504-471-2775. The investigation into this collision is ongoing.

In light of this unfortunate event, LSP wants to emphasize the importance of safety measures for motorcyclists of all ages and experience levels. Riders are urged to exercise extra caution and ensure they are adequately equipped and trained to handle diverse riding circumstances. By participating in certified training programs, motorcyclists receive invaluable education regarding safe riding practices. These practices encompass aspects such as enhancing visibility, dressing appropriately for safety, employing effective riding strategies, and understanding the capabilities and limitations of their motorcycles. Equipped with this knowledge, riders can better avoid accidents and mitigate the risk of injuries in the event of a collision.
