Louisiana State Police Investigate Deadly Hit-and-Run Involving Pedestrian Near LA 415 in Port Allen

Port Allen, Louisiana – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A arrived at the scene of a hit-and-run fatal crash involving a pedestrian on LA 987-3, near LA 415, at around 1:30 p.m. on March 12, 2024. The victim, identified as 37-year-old Theresa Weems from Port Allen, Louisiana tragically lost her life in the crash.

The initial inquiry showed that Weems was walking in the wrong direction on LA 987-3, near the side of the road. A car driving in the correct lane hit Weems and drove away. Weems sustained deadly injuries and passed away on the spot.

The authorities were able to find out that the 2015 Jeep Cherokee driven by 30-year-old Austin Kelley of Port Allen, Louisiana was the vehicle that hit Weems. Kelley was located along with the Jeep at a nearby place, and he was arrested for Felony Hit and Run causing death. 

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
