Louisiana State Police Investigate Deadly Hit-and-Run Involving Bicyclist on LA 103

St. Landry Parish, Louisiana – On the evening of January 26, 2024, at around 8:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I received information regarding a hit-and-run crash. The crash took place on Louisiana Highway 103, close to Alex Stoute Road, north of Port Barre. Tragically, the crash resulted in the death of Daniel Craig Leger, a 54-year-old resident of Port Barre, Louisiana.

After conducting an initial examination, it was found that Leger was riding his bicycle northbound on LA 103, close to the fog line when an unidentified vehicle also driving north hit him from behind. Due to the impact, Leger was thrown off the bike. 

The unidentified vehicle didn’t stop but instead drove away towards the north on LA 103. 

Authorities indicated that Leger was wearing dark-colored attire, and his bicycle had a red flashing LED light.

Leger was taken to a nearby hospital, where he eventually passed away due to his injuries. It is currently not known if he was impaired, but a regular toxicology sample was sent for examination.

So far in 2024, Troop I has conducted investigations on two fatal accidents that have resulted in the loss of two lives.
