Lafourche Parish, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police Troop C initiated an investigation into a fatal two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 1 at Leeville Bridge approximately 5 miles north of Louisiana Highway 3090, just before 7:00 a.m. on December 15, 2023. The collision resulted in the tragic loss of Johnny Garza Jr., aged 27, of Cutoff, Louisiana.
Initial findings indicate that Garza was driving a 2013 Ford Fusion northbound on LA Hwy 1 when his vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. Both vehicles subsequently caught fire following the impact, making it difficult to determine the use of restraints by the drivers due to fire damage.
Tragically, Garza sustained fatal injuries and passed away at the scene, while the driver of the Ford suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical care. Toxicology results for both drivers are currently pending as part of the ongoing investigation.
Louisiana State Troopers indicated that it is important to emphasize that safe driving practices are crucial for personal safety and that of others on the road. Adhering to speed limits, obeying traffic regulations, avoiding distractions such as texting while driving, and refraining from driving under the influence are all essential measures in minimizing crash risks.
In 2023 alone, Troop C has investigated a total of 28 fatal crashes resulting in 31 fatalities.
