DeQuincy, Louisiana – A fatal single-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 12 near DeQuincy, Louisiana, has claimed the life of a 59-year-old man from Elmer. The incident occurred on August 7, 2024, at approximately 3:00 p.m., when a 1996 Peterbilt dump truck driven by Warren Eugene Wood left the roadway and crashed into a wooded area.

According to the preliminary investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop D, Wood’s dump truck was traveling westbound on LA Hwy 12 when it veered off the road to the right. In an attempt to correct the vehicle’s trajectory, Wood overcorrected, causing the truck to cross back over the roadway to the left. The dump truck then rolled onto its left side, slid into a wooded tree line, and struck several trees before catching fire.

Due to the severity of the crash, it is unknown whether Wood was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident. Unfortunately, he sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis to determine if any factors contributed to the crash. The incident remains under investigation by Louisiana State Police.
