St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana - Early in the morning, around 5 a.m., on October 27, Louisiana State Police Troop L initiated an investigation into a collision involving two vehicles on LA Hwy 25 near Gotti Road in St. Tammany Parish. Tragically, Lonnie Sanchez Jr., a 54-year-old resident of Covington, Louisiana lost his life in the crash.
According to preliminary findings, Sanchez was driving southbound on LA Hwy 25 in a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee when he veered off onto the southbound shoulder and collided with a stationary 2012 Freightliner M2. Despite wearing proper restraints, Sanchez suffered severe injuries and was taken to a local hospital where he later passed away.
The driver of the Freightliner, who was also properly restrained, escaped unharmed.
The crash is currently being investigated and there is no suspicion of impairment as a contributing factor.
