DeRidder, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police Troop D started looking into a fatal two-vehicle collision on May 20, 2024, around 1:00 p.m. The incident occurred on Louisiana Highway 112 close to Forrest Simmons Road and sadly resulted in the death of Michael Pharis, a 34-year-old resident of Boyce, Louisiana.

During the initial investigation, it was determined that Pharis was heading east on LA Hwy 112 in a 2019 Dodge Charger when the collision occurred with a Freightliner 18-wheeler traveling west. The Dodge veered into the opposite lane and struck the side of the 18-wheeler, causing it to overturn. The reasons for the Dodge crossing the center line are still being looked into.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. Pharis was fatally injured and died at the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler sustained only minor injuries.

Even though impairment is not believed to be a factor, a regular toxicology sample was taken from each driver and sent for testing. The cause of this collision is still being looked into.

The reason for this crash is still being looked into, but it is crucial to remain sober, attentive, and alert when driving. This can help avoid crashes, maintain safety, and quickly react to any potential dangers.

So far in 2024, Troop D has investigated 5 deadly crashes that led to 5 deaths.
