Louisiana State Police Investigate Convent Murder-Suicide Incident

Convent, Louisiana – A tragic incident occurred in Convent, Louisiana on November 13, 2024, when a vehicle pursuit involving the Gonzales Police Department (GPD) and Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) ended in St. James Parish. The pursuit resulted in a murder-suicide, claiming the lives of a 1-year-old child and a 23-year-old male.

According to the preliminary investigation by the Louisiana State Police Region 1 Criminal Investigations Division (LSP CID), the driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old male, sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound during the incident. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Tragically, a 1-year-old child who was a passenger in the vehicle suffered a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The LSP CID is serving as the lead investigating agency, with the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office (SJPSO) assisting in the investigation. The incident remains active and ongoing, with no further information available at this time.
