Louisiana State Police to Get New Marked and Unmarked Units

Louisiana State Police to get New Patrol Units, Some Semi-Marked
Published February 1, 2018
The Louisiana State Police have been driving the familiar Ford Crown Victoria and Chevrolet Tahoe used by many law enforcement agencies throughout the state of Louisiana and the United States. On January 31, 2018, Louisiana State Police announced that they will soon be adding Dodge Chargers to their fleet of patrol vehicles.
Marked Vs Semi-marked
In addition to the standard marked units, some of the new Chargers will be unmarked and semi-marked vehicles. Rather than highly visible decals and light bars, the semi-marked vehicles will have lightly reflective silver lettering and a Louisiana boot badge that will be less visible. The new semi-marked patrol units will also be equipped with a similar emergency lighting system as the unmarked units which include low profile exterior and interior blue lights rather than an overhead light bar.
The State Police indicated that The lower visibility of the new vehicles will allow their Troopers to more easily blend in with traffic, to observe and stop drivers who choose to drive recklessly.
The new Dodge Charger units will come with either the 3.6L PENTASTAR® V6 engine or the 5.7L HEMI® V8 Engine with fuel saver technology.
