St. Gabriel, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police have uncovered a sophisticated gambling operation run from within a state correctional facility, leading to felony charges against an inmate who allegedly orchestrated the scheme.
Broderick Scott, 48, of Addis, Louisiana, was charged on December 18, 2024, following an extensive investigation that began in May 2023. The probe revealed Scott had allegedly established and operated an illegal sports gambling enterprise while incarcerated at the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center (EHCC).
Investigators from the Louisiana State Police Gaming Enforcement Division (LSP-GED), working alongside the Department of Public Safety and Corrections, identified more than 30,000 transactions connected to the gambling operation. The scheme relied heavily on contraband smuggled into the facility to maintain its operations.
Scott now faces multiple charges, including felony gambling under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:90 and a misdemeanor charge for unlawfully establishing accounts on Internet-based social networking websites while incarcerated. He was booked into the Iberville Parish Jail.
The Department of Corrections has issued a public warning about the use of third-party payment applications, emphasizing that services like Cash App are not authorized methods for sending money to inmates. The only legitimate channels for inmate payments are JPay and other officially approved methods listed on the Department’s website.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
