Louisiana State Police Arrest Teenager for Causing Fatal Crash on Siegen Lane
Baton Rouge – Shortly before 10:00 pm on July 22, 2019, Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 3246 (Siegen Ln.) at LA Hwy 427 (Perkins Rd.) in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 51-year-old Stephanie Payne of Greenwell Springs and resulted in the arrest of 18-year-old Jack Jordan of Baton Rouge.
The initial investigation revealed that Payne was stopped at the intersection of Siegen Ln. and Perkins Rd. in a 2013 Nissan Rogue. At the same time, Jordan was driving northbound on Siegen Ln. in a 2010 Toyota Tundra. Jordan’s Tundra struck the rear of the Rogue at a high rate of speed. As a result, the Rogue became engulfed in flames. Payne suffered fatal injuries as a result.
Jordan stated to Troopers that he intentionally caused the crash. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries and was then transported to Troop A where he attempted to escape. Troopers charged Jordan with LRS 14:30.1 Second degree murder, LRS 14:99 Reckless operation, and LRS 14:110 Simple escape. He was booked into the EBR Parish Prison.
Impairment is not suspected to be a factor, but standard toxicology samples were obtained for analysis. Both drivers were properly restrained. This incident remains under investigation, and there is no further information at this time.
