Fenton, Louisiana – The Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division has arrested Eddie Alfred Jr., the former mayor of Fenton, Louisiana, following an investigation into allegations of improper handling of official village documents. Alfred, 59, was taken into custody on June 3, 2025, and charged with malfeasance in office and injuring public records, two serious violations under Louisiana law.
The investigation began in early May 2025, after the Village of Fenton Administration requested state police assistance regarding concerns about the removal of documents as Alfred left office in December 2024. Detectives determined that Alfred had deleted electronic files, withheld essential documents from the village, and failed to provide key information to the new administration. Some of these files were later recovered from Alfred’s residence.
Malfeasance in office, as defined by Louisiana Revised Statute 14:134, refers to the intentional performance of official duties in an unlawful manner or the intentional failure to perform those duties. Injuring public records, under LA RS 14:132, includes actions such as altering, destroying, or removing public records without lawful authority.
Alfred was processed into the Jefferson Davis Parish Correctional Center after his arrest. The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives are seeking additional information that may assist in the case.
