New Orleans, Louisiana - On June 10, Troop NOLA Troopers from the Louisiana State Police, along with the help of local and federal law enforcement partners, were conducting proactive patrols. They tried to pull over a 2017 Chevrolet Corvette for committing multiple traffic violations near Elysian Fields Ave. and North Robertson St. The two individuals in the Corvette, 33-year-old Christopher Mitchell and 24-year-old Eric Abdul, refused to stop and led the Troopers on a chase through several city streets. The pursuit ended when they crashed into a fire hydrant at Annette St. and North Johnson St. Both suspects ran away on foot but were later caught by law enforcement officers searching the area.

Initial findings indicate that Mitchell was accidentally shot in the leg with a handgun that he had in his possession. Troopers and other agencies gave him medical attention and he was taken to a nearby hospital. Abdul was found and arrested peacefully. Charges are still being determined as investigators try to determine who was driving the vehicle.

Investigators from the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division in New Orleans are currently looking into this ongoing situation. If you have any information related to this case, LSP is asking that you share it with the detectives.
