Louisiana State Police and FBI Team Up to Arrest Gonzales Man in Child Pornography Investigation

Gonzales, Louisiana – On July 18, 2024, Louisiana State Police reported that in March 2024, the Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit (LSP SVU) initiated an investigation, in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), regarding the possession of child pornography. The inquiry led to the apprehension of Benton R. Bateman, a 48-year-old resident of Gonzales, Louisiana.

On July 16, 2024, authorities executed search and arrest warrants at Bateman’s residence, resulting in his detention and arraignment on five counts of Possession of Pornography Involving Juveniles. He was subsequently incarcerated at Ascension Parish Prison.

This ongoing case is under active investigation by LSP SVU, which focuses on rescuing and advocating for victims affected by crimes related to child exploitation and human trafficking for sex or labor. The unit collaborates with various law enforcement agencies at local, state, and federal levels to combat these offenses and also emphasizes public awareness through educational programs.
