Loranger, Louisiana – A fatal single-vehicle crash in Tangipahoa Parish has claimed the life of a 34-year-old Independence, Louisiana resident, according to Louisiana State Police.
Jonathan Schroeder of Independence, Louisiana died from injuries sustained when his 2007 Toyota Avalon veered off Louisiana Highway 442 near Duhe Road and collided with several trees. The crash occurred on April 4, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m.
Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to the scene where they determined Schroeder had been traveling eastbound on LA Hwy 442 when, for reasons still being investigated, his vehicle left the roadway to the right and struck multiple trees.
Investigators noted that Schroeder was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
As part of standard procedure in fatal crash investigations, authorities have collected a toxicology sample from Schroeder for analysis. The results of these tests will form part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Louisiana State Police continue to emphasize the importance of seatbelt use, which significantly reduces the risk of fatal injuries in vehicle crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seatbelts reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45 percent.
