Gonzales, Louisiana - At around 6:00 a.m. on May 18, 2024, Louisiana State Police Troop A Troopers were called to the scene of a single vehicle crash on LA 3251 at Lawrence Minor Road. Unfortunately, the crash resulted in the death of Niles R. Bartholomew, a 35-year-old resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

In the initial investigation, it was found that a 2003 GMC Envoy, driven by Bartholomew, was heading south on LA 3251. The GMC Envoy veered off the road to the left, went into a ditch, and flipped over for reasons that are still being looked into.

Bartholomew, who was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash, was thrown from the car, suffered fatal injuries, and was declared dead at the crash site. Louisiana State Police reported that It is unclear if he was under the influence of any substances, but samples will be tested for analysis. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.

Although not all crashes can be survived, data indicates that wearing your seat belt correctly will significantly decrease the likelihood of being seriously injured or killed in a crash. In Louisiana, all individuals in a vehicle must always wear a seat belt, regardless of where they are seated. Properly using a seat belt is one of the most efficient methods to protect yourself and minimize injuries during crashes.
