Slidell, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police Troop L troopers arrived at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on the westbound side of I-10 at mile marker 258 on the twin span bridge on April 6, 2024, around 11:00 am. Unfortunately, the crash resulted in the death of Alfred Robair Jr., a 57-year-old resident of Slidell, Louisiana.
Initial findings showed that Robair was driving a 2008 Nissan Titan pickup truck on the westbound side of I-10 on the twin span bridge. Simultaneously, a 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer was also traveling west on I-10 in the right lane ahead of Robair. The Nissan collided with the rear of the Chevrolet for reasons that are still being looked into. Following the initial impact, the Nissan veered to the left and hit the left guardrail. The Chevrolet was then hit by another unidentified vehicle after coming to a stop.
Robair, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was thrown from the vehicle, sustained fatal injuries, and was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet was wearing a seatbelt during the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries. A passenger in the Chevrolet, who was also wearing a seatbelt, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and authorities are still trying to identify the unknown vehicle that collided with the Chevrolet. It is unclear if impairment was a factor, and test results to confirm this are still pending.
Troopers are reminding the public that wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the risk of injury or death in a crash, even though not all crashes can be survived. They also emphasize that distracted driving remains a major cause of crashes in our state. Following precautions such as wearing a seatbelt, obeying traffic laws, and driving within speed limits can enhance safety on the road.
