Port Allen, Louisiana – Just after 8:00 p.m. on April 13, 2024, Louisiana State Police Troop A Troopers arrived at the scene of a collision involving two vehicles at the junction of LA 1 and LA 3237. Tragically, the crash resulted in the death of Jonathan K. Williams, a 34-year-old resident of Plaquemine, Louisiana.
During the initial investigation, it was found that Williams was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe heading north on LA 1. Plaquemine Police Department officers attempted to stop the Tahoe as part of their investigation, but Williams refused and instead sped away recklessly in an attempt to escape. As Williams approached the intersection of LA 3237, a 2022 Dodge Ram was turning left from LA 3237 onto LA 1 North. Despite the red signal light, Williams drove through the intersection and collided with the rear side of the Ram. The impact caused the Tahoe to spin out of control, leave the road, and overturn.
Williams, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene. The passenger in the Tahoe, who was also not wearing a seatbelt, was seriously injured and taken to a nearby hospital. Both the driver and passenger in the Ram were wearing seatbelts, with the driver walking away unharmed and the passenger receiving moderate injuries.
It is unknown if impairment played a role in the crash, but toxicology samples will be analyzed. The crash is currently being investigated.
