Louisiana Pedestrian Killed in Crash While Walking Along US 71
Rapides Parish, Louisiana – A pedestrian in Louisiana was killed in a crash while walking along US 71.
The Louisiana State Police (LSP) reported on March 29, 2023, that at around 5:20 p.m., LSP Troop E responded to a fatal crash on US Highway 71 near Little John Lane. Rosary P. Anders, 76, of Dry Prong, Louisiana, was killed in the crash.
According to the preliminary inquiry, Anders was walking on the highway when she was struck by a northbound 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage. As a result, Anders suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Standard toxicological tests are being performed. The crash is still being investigated.
Louisiana State Police said that pedestrians should always wear bright or light-colored clothing and reflective materials to make themselves visible to automobiles. Pedestrians should always walk on the sidewalk, but if one is not available, they should walk as close to the roadway edge as possible while facing traffic. For increased safety, pedestrians should carry a flashlight when walking at night.
Troop E Troopers have investigated 14 fatal crashes so far in 2023, resulting in 15 fatalities.
