Louisiana Pedestrian Killed In Crash While Crossing LA 48

Jefferson Parish, Louisiana – A 79-year-old Harahan man died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Jefferson Highway in Jefferson Parish on the evening of November 3, 2025, according to Louisiana State Police.

Phillip Harris entered a pedestrian crosswalk on LA 48 near the Labarre Road intersection shortly before 7:00 p.m. when he was hit by a southbound 2007 Toyota Tundra. Troopers who responded to the scene determined the Toyota was approaching the intersection with a green traffic light displayed when the crash occurred.

Harris sustained severe injuries in the collision and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Toyota has not been identified in the preliminary investigation.

Louisiana State Police collected standard toxicology samples from those involved in the crash, though investigators have not yet determined whether impairment played a role in the incident. The samples have been submitted for laboratory analysis, with results pending.

The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine all contributing factors. Troopers have not announced whether any citations or charges will be filed in connection with the incident.

Jefferson Highway, also known as LA 48, serves as a major thoroughfare through Jefferson Parish, carrying significant vehicle traffic daily. The roadway features pedestrian crosswalks at various intersections, including the location where Harris was struck near Labarre Road.

State police have not released information about whether Harris activated a pedestrian crossing signal before entering the roadway or how much time elapsed between when he entered the crosswalk and when the collision occurred.
