Opelousas, Louisiana - A woman was killed in a fatal pedestrian crash on U.S. Highway 167 near Flamingo Road in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, early on August 14, 2025, prompting an active investigation by state police. According to Louisiana State Police Troop I, the incident occurred shortly before 2:00 a.m. and involved two vehicles and a pedestrian, 42-year-old Chrystal Thevis of Opelousas, Louisiana.
Preliminary findings indicate a southbound 2011 Toyota 4Runner struck Thevis, who was walking in the roadway wearing dark-colored clothing. A second southbound vehicle also struck Thevis and left the scene before authorities arrived. The identity of the second vehicle and driver is still unknown; troopers are asking for public assistance from anyone who was in the area between 1:30 and 2:00 a.m.
Thevis suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The 4Runner’s driver, who was properly restrained and unharmed, voluntarily provided a breath sample which returned negative for alcohol. Toxicology results for Thevis are pending, as is routine in fatal crash investigations. The investigation remains open as law enforcement seeks information on the hit-and-run vehicle.
