Louisiana Partners with Scholastic to Provide Home Delivery of Grade-Appropriate Books and Literacy Resources to Elementary Students

Louisiana – On February 27, 2023, the Louisiana Department of Education announced Reading Enrichment and Academic Deliverables (READ), a new state-funded book and literacy program meant to aid Louisiana pre-K4 through 5th-grade kids who are not yet reading at grade level. READ will give eligible pupils with home delivery of free, age-appropriate, high-quality books and engaging reading activities.

Louisiana’s READ program is the outcome of Act 395 of the 2022 Regular Session and associated legislative appropriations. Families can follow this link to register their children or learn more about the program.

Over 150,000 Louisiana students are eligible to enroll in the program. READ will ensure that students across the state who are reading below grade level have expanded access to books, as well as the opportunity to discover the power and joy of reading via book ownership.

In addition, eligible children and their families can choose the topics of the books they want to receive in order to further engage students in genres that interest them. Each title will be accompanied by a literacy resource that will assist children to enhance reading skills and confidence related to the story.
