Golden Meadow, Louisiana – A tragic incident occurred on Louisiana Highway 3235 near La Salette Drive on October 30, 2024, when a two-vehicle crash involving a bicycle resulted in the loss of life of a local resident. The Louisiana State Police Troop C launched an investigation into the fatal incident, which happened shortly after 7:00 p.m.
According to the preliminary investigation, 60-year-old Carl Guidry of Golden Meadow, Louisiana was attempting to cross LA Hwy 3235 while riding his bicycle eastbound. At the same time, a 2014 Dodge 2500 was traveling north on the highway. For reasons still under investigation, Guidry failed to yield to the approaching vehicle and was struck.
The impact of the crash proved fatal for Guidry, who sustained severe injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the Dodge, who was properly restrained and uninjured, voluntarily provided a breath sample, which showed no presence of alcohol. A standard toxicology sample was collected from Guidry and submitted for analysis. The investigation is ongoing.
In Louisiana, bicycles are classified as vehicles, requiring operators to follow the same traffic laws as motorists. Staying visible by using proper lighting and wearing brightly colored or reflective clothing, particularly in low-light conditions, can significantly enhance safety when sharing the road with other vehicles.
