Larose, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred on the night of June 1, 2025, on LA Highway 308 at the intersection with LA Highway 657 in Lafourche Parish. The incident involved a motorized bicycle and a passenger car, resulting in the death of 28-year-old Jonathon Bourg of Golden Meadow, Louisiana.
According to authorities with Troop C, the collision happened around 10:30 p.m. Preliminary findings indicate that Bourg was traveling northbound on a motorized bicycle along LA Hwy 308, nearing the intersection with LA Hwy 657. At the same time, a 2021 Acura TLX was moving east on LA Hwy 657. Investigators state that, for reasons that remain under review, Bourg entered the intersection by passing through a red traffic signal. This action placed him in the path of the Acura, which then struck Bourg’s bicycle.
Emergency responders transported Bourg to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the Acura was properly restrained with a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. State police reported that the Acura driver showed no signs of impairment, and a voluntary breath sample indicated the absence of alcohol.
A standard toxicology sample was collected from Bourg and is currently pending analysis, as is routine in fatal incidents.
Under Louisiana law, bicycles—including motorized bicycles—are classified as vehicles, and their operators are required to follow the same traffic laws as those driving cars. This includes obeying traffic signals and ensuring proper lighting when riding at night. State law mandates that bicycles used after dark must have a white front light, as well as a red rear light and reflector, to improve visibility and safety.
