Girard, Louisiana – A fatal crash occurred on Monday, October 7, 2024, on US Hwy 80 at its intersection with LA Hwy 133, claiming the life of a 42-year-old motorcyclist, Lonnie McIlvoy of Gilbert, Louisiana. The incident is currently under investigation by Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2016 Peterbilt semi-truck, driven by 57-year-old Curtis Brown, was traveling east on US Hwy 80 when it attempted to turn left onto LA Hwy 133. The collision between the two vehicles resulted in the death of McIlvoy, who was pronounced dead at the scene. McIlvoy was wearing a non-DOT-approved helmet at the time of the crash.
Brown, the driver of the semi-truck, was properly restrained and uninjured in the incident. Although impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis to determine if any substances may have contributed to the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Louisiana State Police urges drivers to exercise caution when operating vehicles and to be aware of their surroundings to prevent similar incidents.
