Louisiana Motorcyclist Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash on LA 1 After Reportedly Traveling at High Rate of Speed

Louisiana – On October 11, 2022, Louisiana State Police reported that soon after 12:00 p.m., LSP Troop C was notified of a two-vehicle serious injury crash involving a motorcycle on Louisiana Highway 1 at West 133rd Street. Euell Turnage, 49, of Cut Off, Louisiana, was killed in the collision.

Turnage was riding a Harley-Davidson motorbike north on LA Highway 1 at a high rate of speed, overtaking many northbound vehicles, according to the preliminary inquiry. At the same moment, ahead of Turnage, the driver of a northbound 2013 KIA Sorrento began to slow down and turn left onto West 133rd Street. Turnage was thrown from the motorcycle after colliding into the rear of the KIA for unknown reasons.

Despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet, Turnage had serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died. The KIA driver was properly restrained and escaped unharmed.
Turnage’s toxicological sample was taken and sent for testing. The KIA driver was not suspected of being intoxicated and freely agreed to a chemical breath test, which revealed no alcohol. This crash is still being investigated.

Drivers, whether on a motorcycle or in a vehicle, must make sound decisions while on the road. Following all traffic signs and signals, as well as not driving when inebriated, drowsy, or distracted, can frequently mean the difference between life and death.

So far in 2022, Troop C has investigated 37 fatal crashes that resulted in 41 deaths.
