Springfield, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police are investigating a deadly motorcycle crash that occurred on LA 43 in Livingston Parish on November 2, 2025, claiming the life of a Springfield man.

Earl Duncan, 57, died following a two-vehicle collision that took place shortly before 2:00 p.m. near Haynes Settlement Road. Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to the scene and began their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

According to the preliminary investigation, Duncan was riding a 1999 Honda motorcycle northbound on LA 43 when the incident occurred. A 2024 Cadillac XT6, also traveling north on the same highway, attempted to pass Duncan’s motorcycle in a designated legal passing zone.

For reasons that remain under investigation, Duncan turned his motorcycle left into the path of the passing Cadillac, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles. The impact caused Duncan to sustain serious injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators noted that Duncan was wearing a DOT-approved helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Cadillac was properly restrained with a seatbelt and did not sustain any injuries in the crash. Impairment is not currently suspected as a contributing factor in the incident, though Louisiana State Police will collect and submit routine toxicology samples for analysis as part of their standard investigation protocol.

The crash remains under active investigation as troopers work to determine the exact sequence of events that led to Duncan’s fatal left turn.
