Bossier Parish, Louisiana - A three-vehicle crash on July 5, 2025, claimed the life of a 41-year-old Shreveport resident, Byron Smith, according to Louisiana State Police. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Airline Drive near North Willow Drive, prompting a response from Troop G. Authorities report that the crash involved a Nissan Altima, a Kawasaki motorcycle, and a vehicle exiting a private driveway.
The initial investigation indicates that Scarlett Jackson, 24, of Mansfield, was driving the Nissan southbound in the left lane on Airline Drive. At the same time, Smith was riding his Kawasaki motorcycle in the right lane, also heading south. For reasons still under investigation, Jackson attempted to turn right into a private driveway from the left lane, resulting in a collision with both the motorcycle and a third vehicle that was leaving the driveway.
Smith, who was wearing a DOT-approved helmet as mandated by Louisiana law, was ejected from his bike and pronounced dead at the scene.
Neither Jackson nor the occupant of the vehicle exiting the driveway was injured in the crash. Both individuals were properly restrained at the time of the incident.
During the course of the investigation, troopers suspected Jackson was impaired. She was arrested and booked into Bossier Parish Maximum Security Jail on multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to yield. State police collected standard toxicology samples from Jackson, which are pending analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
