Holden, Louisiana – On July 22, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a tragic incident involving a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on LA 441 at the intersection of Herman Hutchinson Road. The crash resulted in the death of 64-year-old Tommy Moseley, a resident of Independence, Louisiana.

According to preliminary investigations, Moseley was riding a 2005 Honda motorcycle that was traveling northbound on LA 441 when the vehicle failed to successfully navigate a curve. The motorcycle veered off the road to the right, collided with a culvert, and subsequently entered a ditch.

Moseley was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether impairment played a role, are still under investigation. Standard toxicology samples have been collected and will undergo analysis.

In light of this incident, the Louisiana State Police are emphasizing the critical importance of utilizing appropriate safety equipment while riding motorcycles. Troopers stress that wearing a DOT-approved helmet significantly reduces the risk of traumatic brain injuries in the event of a crash.

In addition to the use of helmets, law enforcement officials encourage all motorcycle riders to participate in approved motorcycle safety courses. These courses provide valuable knowledge and skills that can enhance rider safety.
