Minden, Louisiana - A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 near U.S. Highway 371 resulted in the death of Christopher Hatfield, 58, of Sarepta, Louisiana. The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. on June 15. Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to the scene, where they found that Hatfield’s 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle had left the roadway and struck a median guardrail.

According to the preliminary investigation, Hatfield was traveling eastbound when, for reasons still under investigation, his motorcycle exited the highway and collided with the guardrail. Hatfield was reportedly wearing a Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved helmet at the time of the crash.

Following the incident, Hatfield sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Louisiana State Police indicated that impairment is not currently suspected as a factor in the crash. However, in accordance with standard procedure, toxicology samples were collected and will be analyzed as part of the investigation.

The cause of why the vehicle left the roadway remains under review by authorities.

Motorcycle crashes tend to carry a higher risk of serious injuries compared to other vehicles, even when protective equipment such as helmets is used. Law enforcement encourages all motorists to remain vigilant on the road and adhere to all traffic safety laws.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and there were no additional injuries reported.
