Louisiana Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of Mississippi Resident on U.S. Highway 90 in Vinton

Vinton, Louisiana – A 35-year-old motorcyclist from Osyka, Mississippi, was killed in a fatal two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 90 near Interstate 10 in Calcasieu Parish on September 17, 2024. The incident occurred shortly before 8:00 p.m. when the motorcyclist, identified as Kelly Fox, collided with a 2019 Kia Sorento driven by Romero Chavis of Orange, Texas.

According to the preliminary investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop D, Fox was traveling south on U.S. Highway 90 on a 2012 Suzuki motorcycle when Chavis turned left in front of him. The motorcycle struck the right side of the Kia, causing Fox to be ejected from the vehicle. Despite wearing a Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved helmet, Fox received fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Chavis, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was not injured. Standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis. The incident remains under investigation by the Louisiana State Police.

In light of this fatal crash, troopers are urging motorists to exercise extra caution when sharing the road with motorcyclists. They advise drivers to take an extra moment to look twice and be alert for motorcycles, as this can help prevent serious injury and deadly crashes.
