Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana - A 70-year-old woman died and her 70-year-old boyfriend was hospitalized following a mobile home fire Saturday morning in Terrebonne Parish, according to Louisiana State Fire Marshal deputies investigating the incident.

The Little Caillou Fire Department responded to the blaze at 6:17 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, in the 5300 block of Bayouside Drive in Chauvin. State Fire Marshal investigators have determined the mobile home lacked working smoke alarms.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by State Fire Marshal deputies. No additional details about the circumstances leading to the fire have been released.

Chief Bryan J. Adams, Department of Public Safety Principal Assistant, emphasized the importance of smoke alarm protection for Louisiana residents following the fatal fire. The incident underscores the critical role smoke alarms play in providing early warning during house fires.

The State Fire Marshal's Operation Save-A-Life program offers free smoke alarms and professional installation services to Louisiana residents who need them. The program aims to reduce fire-related deaths and injuries throughout the state by ensuring homes have proper smoke detection systems.

Residents can visit lasfm.org to learn more about the free smoke alarm program or contact their local fire department to request installation services. The Louisiana State Fire Marshal's office recommends testing smoke alarms monthly and replacing batteries at least once per year.

The investigation into the Chauvin mobile home fire continues as deputies work to determine the exact cause of the blaze that claimed one life and injured another.
