Louisiana Man Sentenced to Prison for Kidnapping and Unauthorized Entry

Published December 1, 2021

Marcel N. Dugar, 40, of Iowa, LA, was sentenced on December 1, 2021, to 6 years in prison on one count of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and 30 years on one count of aggravated kidnapping. These sentences will run concurrently, with the first five years served without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence, and upon release, the defendant will be required to register as a sex offender. The sentences will run concurrently with the time spent for an armed robbery and 1st-degree robbery conviction in 1999.

In the year 2020, Dugar broke into the victim’s home through a kitchen window. Upon entering the house, Dugar forcefully removed an 8-month-old toddler from the arms of the child’s grandmother and fled the scene. Dugar was found at another residence by deputies from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, who took him to the Sheriff’s Office for further investigation. Acadian Ambulance was dispatched to the location to assess the 8-month-old child for injuries. The victim was reunited with his mother and returned home after no injuries were discovered.

Assistant District Attorneys Bobby Holmes and Kadence Haskett prosecuted the case for the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office.
