Louisiana Man Sentenced to More Than Six Years in Prison After a Tip Led to Multiple Devices Containing Child Pornography

Louisiana – A Louisiana man has been sentenced to more than six years in prison after a tip led to the discovery of multiple devices containing child pornography.

United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown announced the conclusion of a case in the Western District of Louisiana’s Lafayette Division. United States District Judge Robert R. Summerhays sentenced Charles Dirk Lafleur, 56, of Ville Platte, Louisiana, was sentenced to 78 months (6 years, 6 months) in prison followed by three years of supervised release.

For possessing child pornography, Charles Dirk Lafleur, 56, of Ville Platte, Louisiana, was sentenced to 78 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. The allegations in this case come from an investigation conducted by a Louisiana Bureau of Investigation Cyber Crimes Unit agent upon the receipt of a Cyber Tip Line Report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The report identified the upload of an image containing child pornography to a Microsoft OneDrive account, as well as the unique user information linked with that account. Their research indicated that the image did indeed include child pornography, and a search warrant for the Microsoft OneDrive account was acquired. The account user was identified as Lafleur in the search warrant. Following further investigation, another search warrant for Lafleur’s residence was acquired and executed by law enforcement agents on November 7, 2018. Authorities seized eight of Lafleur’s electronic devices, which were investigated and discovered to include photographs and videos of child pornography, including pornography involving prepubescent minors under the age of 12. On October 12, 2022, Lafleur was charged with and pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography.

The Department of Homeland Security, the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation Cyber Crimes Unit investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig R. Bordelon.
