Louisiana Man Sentenced to 15 Years After Officers Discover Methamphetamine, a Pocket Scale, and Other Evidence During a Traffic Stop
Louisiana – On August 24, 2022, United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown announced that Delon Scott, 34, of Hahnville, Louisiana, has been sentenced by United States District Judge Terry A. Doughty. Scott was sentenced to 180 months (15 years) in prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release, on drug trafficking and possession of firearms charges.
On May 17, 2022, Scott pleaded guilty to a Bill of Information charging him with methamphetamine possession with intent to distribute, and possessing firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking. Scott was stopped for speeding by a Mangham, Louisiana police officer on December 8, 2020, according to evidence produced in court. During the traffic stop, officers determined that there was probable cause to search the vehicle. Officers discovered methamphetamine, a pocket scale, and Ziploc bags inside the vehicle. A Taurus 9mm pistol, a Glock 9mm pistol, a FEG PA-63 9x18mm pistol, and a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard.380 pistol were also discovered beneath the hood of the vehicle.
The seized narcotics were forwarded to the North Louisiana Criminalistics Laboratory for analysis, and the amount of pure methamphetamine found exceeded 50 grams.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Mangham Police Department investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica D. Cassidy.
