Louisiana Man Rearrested For Alleged Possession of a Machine Gun After Bonding Out on Homicide Charge in Texas

Alexandria, Louisiana – A man from Louisiana has been rearrested for allegedly possessing a machine gun after being released on bond for a homicide charge in Texas.

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) stated on May 12, 2023, that on March 24, 2023, the APD aided the Houston Police Department in executing an arrest warrant for homicide on Jeremyah Smith in Alexandria, Louisiana.

During his arrest, Smith was allegedly discovered to be in possession of an automatic firearm, according to authorities. Smith was extradited back to Houston by the Houston Police Department, where he later bonded out on the homicide charge and returned to Alexandria, Louisiana. The Alexandria Police Department Officers secured a warrant for Smith’s arrest on the day he returned to Alexandria and were able to make the arrest on May 12, 2023. Smith was arrested and charged with Handling/Possession of a Machine Gun, Obstruction of Justice, and Resisting an Officer and booked into the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Officials stated that the inquiry is still ongoing.
