Louisiana Man Re-Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison for Vehicular Homicide After an Appeals Court Returned the Case
Lake Charles, Louisiana – The Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office announced on August 19, 2022, that George McKinney, 24, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, was re-sentenced by Judge David Ritchie after the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals returned the case for resentencing. McKinney pled guilty to one count of vehicular homicide in 2021 and was sentenced to 30 years in jail, with 7 years suspended. McKinney must spend three years of supervised probation, pay nearly $20,000 in restitution, and complete 300 hours of community service after his release.
McKinney struck and killed a pedestrian in October 2020 while driving under the influence and speeding.
The case was prosecuted by Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office Assistant District Attorney Bobby Holmes.
