Louisiana Man Pleads Guilty to Drug Crimes After Police find Methamphetamine Hidden in His Vehicle
New Orleans, Louisiana – Jarrett Scurto, age 35, a resident of Houma, Louisiana, pled guilty on August 3, 2022, before U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance to possession with intent to distribute fifty grams or more of methamphetamine in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(A), announced U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans.
According to court filings, Scurto, a known methamphetamine distributor in Terrebonne Parish, was stopped by law police on Louisiana Highway 182 on April 28, 2021. Scurto’s vehicle was later searched, and it was discovered that he had 58 grams of pure methamphetamine in a hidden compartment in his trunk.
Scurto risks a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years in prison, up to life in prison, a fine of up to $10,000,000, at least five years of supervised release following any period of incarceration, and an obligatory special assessment charge of $100.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated this case. Assistant United States Attorney J. Benjamin Myers is in charge of the prosecution.
