Louisiana – A Bienville Parish man who evaded justice for over three decades has finally been sentenced to 45 years in prison without parole for a shooting that occurred in Ringgold, Louisiana, in 1991. Greg Lawson, 64, was captured in Mexico in September 2023, bringing an end to a 32-year manhunt.

Lawson was accused of attempting to shoot Seth Garlington following a dispute at a gas station in 1991. He was initially charged with attempted second-degree murder, but he fled the country during jury deliberations. The FBI New Orleans office received a tip that led to his capture in Mexico, and he was subsequently extradited to the United States to face justice.

On Thursday, July 18, 2024, a judge in Claiborne Parish sentenced Lawson to 45 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections, ensuring that he will spend the rest of his life behind bars. The case was prosecuted by the Louisiana Office of Attorney General, led by Attorney General Liz Murrill.

In a statement, Attorney General Murrill emphasized the significance of the sentencing, saying, “The sentencing of this defendant is a testament to the commitment of our office to seek justice for crime victims, no matter the length of time. This victim will finally get justice after more than three decades.”
