Kentwood, Louisiana - On June 25, 2024, a tragic single-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 38 near LA Hwy 441 in St. Helena Parish claimed the life of 80-year-old Billy Hebert of Greensburg, Louisiana. The incident occurred shortly before 12:30 p.m. when Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Hebert was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on LA Hwy 38 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tree. According to reports from Louisiana State Police, unfortunately, Hebert was not properly restrained and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

As part of the ongoing investigation, a routine toxicology sample was obtained from Hebert for analysis.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of wearing seatbelts while driving or riding in a vehicle. Statistics have consistently shown that properly wearing a seatbelt can significantly reduce the risk of injury or death in the event of a crash. In fact, Louisiana law requires all occupants of a vehicle, regardless of seating position, to always wear a seatbelt.

The Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind the public of the crucial role seatbelts play in saving lives and preventing injuries. By buckling up, drivers and passengers can greatly increase their chances of surviving a crash.
