Lasalle Parish, Louisiana – At around midnight on October 15, 2023, the Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a single-vehicle accident on Louisiana Highway 127 near the community of Nebo. Unfortunately, the crash resulted in the tragic death of Roy Houston, a 49-year-old individual from Monroe, Louisiana.

The initial investigation revealed that Houston was driving a 2020 Kia northbound on Louisiana Highway 127 when, for reasons still being investigated, his vehicle veered off the road and collided with a tree after traveling down the ditch embankment.

Regrettably, Houston was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Routine toxicology samples were collected and sent for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation into this crash.

LSP said that it is important to note that while not all crashes are survivable, wearing seat belts correctly can significantly reduce both the likelihood of death and severity of injuries sustained in such incidents. Ensuring that every occupant is properly restrained can often be crucial in determining whether they live or die.

So far in 2023 alone, Troop E has already dealt with 42 fatal crashes resulting in a total of 47 fatalities.
