Louisiana Man Killed in Pedestrian vs Vehicle Crash in Pineville

Louisiana – On May 4, 2022, shortly after 5:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash on US Highway 71 near Lafayette Drive. Mathew Arnett, 36, of Pineville, Louisiana, was killed in the crash.

According to the preliminary investigation, Arnett was struck by a southbound 2006 Jeep Cherokee as he attempted to cross the road. Arnett died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Toxicology tests are being performed on a routine basis. The crash is still being investigated.

Louisiana State Police said that pedestrians should always wear bright/light-colored clothing and reflective materials to make themselves visible to drivers. Pedestrians should always walk on a sidewalk, but if one is not available, they should walk as close to the roadway edge as possible while facing traffic. For added safety, pedestrians should carry a flashlight when walking at night.

In 2022, Troop E Troopers have investigated 14 fatal crashes resulting in 15 fatalities.
