Grant Parish, Louisiana - On October 22, 2023, at around 3:30 p.m., the Louisiana State Police Troop E received a call about a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 500, east of Louisiana Highway 472. Unfortunately, this crash claimed the life of Elres Ray Ehrman, who was 51 years old and from Colfax, Louisiana.
The initial investigation revealed that Laicon Purvis, a 31-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia was driving a 1997 Ford F-150 traveling eastbound on Louisiana Highway 500. It is still unclear why Purvis lost control of the vehicle, but it appears that there was a tire malfunction. As a result of this malfunction, the vehicle veered off the road and flipped over.
Sadly, Ehrman was ejected from the vehicle during this incident and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Purvis also sustained injuries but they were not life-threatening. Purvis was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Toxicology samples were collected for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation into this crash.
It is important to note that not all crashes can be survived; however, wearing seat belts correctly can significantly reduce the risk of death or severe injury in such situations. Ensuring that all occupants are properly restrained can make a significant difference between life and death in many cases.
In total for this year so far (2023), Troop E has investigated a total of 44 fatal accidents resulting in the loss of 49 lives.
