Louisiana Man Killed in Four-Vehicle Crash on LA 139

Louisiana – Thursday, December 8, 2022, Louisiana State Police reported that shortly after 6:30 a.m., LSP Troop F responded to a four-vehicle collision on LA Highway 139 at Trichel Road. Louis E. Higgins, 70, of Rayville, Louisiana, perished in this collision.

Higgins was driving a 2013 Toyota Camry northbound on LA Hwy 139, according to the preliminary inquiry. As the 1994 GMC pickup waited to turn left onto Trichel Road, the Camry collided with it for circumstances that are currently under investigation. After the original collision, the Camry traveled into the southbound lane and struck a 2022 KIA K5, followed by a 2013 Ford F-150.
The Coroner’s Office of Ouachita Parish ruled Higgins dead at the scene after he received fatal injuries in the crash. Authorities indicated that Higgins was restrained at the time of the collision.  There were no other recorded injuries. Samples were collected and submitted for toxicology analysis. The inquiry into this crash continues.

Although the specific reason for the accident is still under investigation, State Troopers would want to warn the public that inattentive and distracted driving is extremely dangerous and a leading cause of accidents in our state.

To maintain vigilance, drivers must pay close attention to their surroundings and get sufficient rest.

So far in 2022, Troop F has investigated 29 fatal collisions that resulted in 32 fatalities.
