Folsom, Louisiana – On February 26, just after 7:30 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L started looking into a crash involving a single vehicle on LA Hwy 1078 near LA Hwy 1077 in St. Tammany Parish. The crash resulted in the death of Lance Husser, a 41-year-old resident of Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
The first investigation showed that Husser was driving a 2010 Dodge Avenger heading west on LA Hwy 1078. For reasons that are still being looked into, the Dodge veered off the road and crashed into a large tree. Following the impact with the tree, the Dodge caught fire.
The driver was wearing restrained but suffered severe injuries in the crash. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. As part of the ongoing inquiry, a sample was taken from Husser for testing for any drugs or alcohol in his system.
Troopers want to emphasize the importance of making wise choices when driving. Avoid driving under the influence, when tired, or distracted. Abide by traffic rules and make sure that all passengers are wearing seat belts. While not all crashes can be avoided, following these basic precautions can sometimes determine whether someone lives or dies.
