Port Allen, Louisiana – On the morning of March 26, 2024, Louisiana State Police Troop A officers arrived at the scene of a collision involving two vehicles on US 190, close to LA 415 by Industrial Blvd. Tragically, the crash resulted in the death of Paul Russell David Jr., a 49-year-old from Plaquemine, Louisiana.
Initial findings showed that David was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue behind a 2024 Western Star dump truck on US 190 heading west. The Nissan hit the right rear of the dump truck as it was stopped, getting ready to turn left into a driveway for reasons that are currently unknown. Following the collision, the Nissan flipped over and veered off the road to the right.
David, who was wearing a seatbelt during the crash, suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene. Although there is no suspicion of impairment, samples will be taken for testing. The driver of the dump truck was also wearing a seatbelt and was unharmed in the crash.
Louisiana State Troopers want to emphasize the significance of making wise choices when operating a vehicle. It is crucial to never drive under the influence, when tired, or distracted, to ensure all passengers are wearing seat belts, and to adhere to traffic regulations. While not every crash can be avoided, implementing these basic safety measures can greatly impact the outcome and potentially save lives.
