Louisiana Man Killed in Early Morning Boating Accident While Shrimping

Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced on September 22, 2022, that enforcement agents are investigating a tragic boating incident in St. Tammany Parish.

Ricky Hodgson, 62, of Pearl River, Louisiana, was discovered dead in Lake Pontchartrain on September 22 at about 9:30 a.m.

Agents discovered that Hodgson and another passenger on the boat were recreationally trawling for shrimp near the twinspans in Lake Pontchartrain when their trawl became snagged at around midnight. Hodgson and the other boater were attempting to free the trawl when the boat capsized, putting both men into the water without personal flotation devices.

The other boater survived the event, but Hodgson died after falling into the water.

The LDWF will lead the investigation into this boating accident. Hodgson’s body was turned over to the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office for an official cause of death determination.
